I-Cash Winner Joins Treasurer Frerichs Presents CLS Pole Qualifying Trophy

Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs had the honor of presenting the Sprint Cup Pole Qualifying trophy at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 20. Treasurer Frerichs was joined onstage by Ron Saxton, one of the tens of thousands of Illinoisans to recover unclaimed money through the State Treasurer’s I-Cash program in the last year. Together, Saxton and Frerichs presented the trophy to qualifying winner Kevin Harvick, who emerged as the victor from the practice laps after severe storms canceled qualifying.

For Saxton, a native of nearby Ottawa and an avid NASCAR fan, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  Saxton won tickets to Sunday’s race through a giveaway from the Treasurer’s office and was invited by Treasurer Frerichs to join him in presenting the trophy.

The Illinois Treasurer is the state’s Chief Investment Officer, helping provide Illinois families a financial roadmap to the American Dream through various programs such as college savings and retirement planning. As part of that job, the treasurer’s office safeguards unclaimed money and reunites the cash with its rightful owners through the I-Cash program.

Through I-Cash, the Illinois Treasurer is safeguarding more than $2 billion for Illinois residents to claim. Finding if you have money to claim is easy: simply search your name at IllinoisTreasurer.gov. Recovered funds can include anything from a forgotten childhood bank account to life insurance policies worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that your parents or another loved one forgot they ever opened.

Saxton searched at IllinoisTreasurer.gov and discovered more than $600 to claim through I-Cash.
“I was shocked to find out I had money in the I-Cash program due to an address mix up,” said Saxton. “Reclaiming my property was easy, and I had my money in less than three weeks! As a huge NASCAR fan, I’m grateful to have won tickets to the race at the Chicagoland Speedway from the Treasurer’s office. It was a unique experience to be on stage to present the Pole Qualifying trophy with Treasurer Frerichs.”

One in four Illinois adults discovers unclaimed money when they search at IlliniosTreasurer.gov. Like Saxton, residents may find hundreds or even thousands of dollars to claim, so search today!
