Chicagoland Speedway announces the addition of the True Value IROC (International Race of Champions) Racing Series to the 2002 race schedule.

The True Value IROC Racing Series, which is recognized as the All-Star Game of auto racing, is the first event of a six-race schedule for 2002 at the 1.5-mile D-shaped tri-oval speedway in Joliet, Illinois. As the third stop on a four-race schedule for IROC, Chicagoland Speedway joins such prestigious tracks as Daytona International Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IROC, which will be a 100-mile race (67 laps), is scheduled to run before the NASCAR Busch Series Tropicana Twister 300 Presented by SAM'S CLUB on July 13, 2002 as a part of the July 12-14 NASCAR weekend.

?I am pleased that Chicagoland Speedway was chosen as a site for the IROC series. What better city to host the International Race of Champions than Joliet, the City of Champions,? said Joie Chitwood, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. Chitwood added, ?It speaks volumes about the type of facility we created that appeals to both fans and drivers. IROC is going to put on a great show for the fans at Chicagoland Speedway.?

?We're very happy about bringing the True Value IROC Series to Chicagoland Speedway in 2002. Going to a new race track is a welcomed challenge for us as a team with setting up the race cars and a challenge for the drivers as well,? said Jay Signore, IROC president. Signore added, ?We're also excited about the opportunity to race in the Chicago area, which is home to many race fans and our entitlement sponsor True Value. We want to thank everyone at Chicagoland Speedway for their warm reception and the enthusiasm expressed toward having the series added to the schedule.?

Conceived in 1973, IROC?s goal was to take 12 of the world's top drivers from different types of racing, put them in identically prepared IROC race cars, give them a set of rules which virtually eliminates the variables usually associated with racing (no pit stops, no qualifying, no driver set-up of the cars, etc.) and wave the green flag.

The True Value IROC Racing Series was designed to produce a winner determined solely on driver skill. Drivers are not allowed to make changes or adjustments to the suspension, handling or any other parts of the IROC race cars, except for pedal and steering wheel adjustments, seat position and seat belts.

In 2001, IROC celebrated 25 years of racing producing a roster of champions with names such as, Earnhardt, Andretti, Unser, Foyt, Allison, Wallace, Martin and Labonte. Drivers are selected and invited to compete by IROC organizers. The 2002 drivers have not been selected yet, but will include top name drivers from the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series, Indy Racing League and the World of Outlaws.

?We are thrilled to be able to give our Track Pack holders an even more valuable ticket with the addition of IROC to our 2002 schedule at no additional charge,? said Chitwood. Tickets will again be sold in the form of a Track Pack, a season pass for all six racing events at Chicagoland Speedway. Also, a limited amount of Founder?s P.A.S.S. seats will again be available in 2002, which the ticket holder secures for 30 years by renewing it with the purchase of a Track Pack each year.
