Kevin Harvick christened the new Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, drawing donuts on the frontstretch of the new trioval following his win of the inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series Tropicana 400. It was the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Leader?s second win of his career. He drives the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing. Commenting on his year so far Harvick said, ?I think this year has been more of a whirlwind than anything. But I?ve been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time,? said Harvick after his win. Robert Pressley, driver of the No. 77 Jasper Engines Ford scored a second place finish, while crowd favorite Ricky Rudd, who drives the No. 28 Texaco Havoline Ford, added to his stellar season with a third place finish. ?I owe today to this Texaco/Havoline team," Rudd said. "We lead early in the race and I thought we had a great race car. But, once we got back in traffic it pushed all day long. We found a combination with four new tires that finally worked. Some guys took two tires and some actually took no tires, so when we'd take four it would put us behind. But, in the end we had really good car." said Rudd. The race saw 14 lead changes among 10 drivers. Gordon, who had the points lead heading into the Inaugural Tropicana 400, finished 17, allowing for Dale Jarrett to pull even in the points race. Rudd is now within 18 points of the lead for the NASCAR Winston Cup points championship. The NASCAR Winston Cup series heads into Loudon, New Hampshire for the New England 300 this week.
