Joliet, Ill. – August 29, 2016 – Chicagoland Speedway today announced the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as the title sponsor for its NASCAR XFINITY Series Drive for Safety 300 on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The NHTSA was established in 1970 as part of the Highway Safety Act. Its sole mission focuses on achieving high standards of excellence in motor vehicle and highway safety. Thus, there is no more perfect pair than NHTSA and NASCAR.

In partnership with NASCAR, NHTSA has focused on promoting life-saving highway safety and vehicle safety messages with their Drive for Safety initiative. The program highlights topics including distracted driving, seat belts, tire safety, five-star crash ratings and recalls throughout the 2016 NASCAR season.

“Whether driving on a racetrack to win a race, or simply driving to the grocery store, NHTSA and NASCAR share a common goal - safety on and off the track” said NHTSA Administrator Dr. Mark Rosekind. “Wearing a seat belt, not driving distracted, and signing up for recall alerts at safercar.gov, are simple ways to protect yourself and the ones you love.”

“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration works fervently to achieve the highest standards in motor vehicle and highway safety and they recognize that these powerful messages can be harnessed through NASCAR Nation,” said Scott Paddock, President of Chicagoland Speedway. “We are privileged to partner with an organization that champions such a meaningful message related to safe driving.”

The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend at Chicagoland Speedway, Sept. 15-18, will begin on Thursday, Sept. 15 with the ARCA Racing Series followed by American Ethanol E15 225 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series under the lights on Friday night. On Saturday, Sept. 17, the NASCAR XFINITY Series will hit the track as the precursor to Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series showdown, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
