Joliet, Ill. February 23, 2016 — The four finalists of the “Cooking for a Cause” culinary arts curriculum program challenge were announced yesterday with two children’s menu offerings selected from Joliet West and two from Central. The program kicked off in September of 2015 as 40 students from both Joliet Central and Joliet West began working under the guidance of their teachers and Levy Restaurants, Chicagoland Speedway’s concession partner, to create a signature menu item for the 2016 race season at Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway.

The final four kids’ meals nominated will be tasted and voted on by attendees of Joliet Township High School and Chicagoland Speedway “Cooking for a Cause” fundraiser set for Thursday, March 10 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the new Student Center in Joliet Central High School (201 East Jefferson Street, Joliet, Illinois, 60432).

The event is open to the public with all guests having the opportunity to not only enjoy samples of each of the four kids’ meals, but also play a pivotal role in deciding which items will be featured on the Chicagoland Speedway menu by voting on their favorites. Additional content will include live music, the Chicagoland Speedway pace car on display and more.

Only one meal from each school can be selected to appear on the 2016 Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway concessions menu. The four finalists include:

West:

  • Tiger Tenders
  • Pizza Dog

Central:

  • Pigs in a Blanket
  • Pit Stop Pizza Fries

In addition to the curriculum competition, all of the participants will have the opportunity to apply for two scholarships totaling $2,500 provided by Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway’s foundation, R.A.C.E.

The fundraiser will benefit two Joliet organizations dedicated to providing support services to those in need, with proceeds going to Vilaseca Josephine Center and Morningstar Mission. Both were selected by the students for their admirable work in the community.

Vilaseca Josephine Center works to educate children in an integral formation and create an environment where their spiritual, academic, and moral gifts can grow within themselves and become good Christians and citizens of tomorrow

MorningStar Mission has served men, women, children and families in Joliet and Will Country since 1909, offering hope through one-time meals and long-term recovery programs.

To purchase tickets to the fundraiser, which are $10 for adults and $3 for students, visit the JTHS Webstore at www.jths.org. For businesses interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Carol Collins (ccollins@jths.org) with Joliet Township High School.
