Joliet, Ill. March 9, 2015 — Joliet Township High School and Chicagoland Speedway will host a fundraiser on Thursday, March 26, as the finale to a seven-month long culinary arts project with Joliet Township students. “Cooking for a Cause” will take place at Joliet West High School (401 N. Larkin Ave, Joliet, IL) from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Guests will enjoy samples of the four sandwich finalists along with live music, the Chicagoland Speedway pace car and additional entertainment.

The fundraiser will benefit two Joliet organizations dedicated to providing support services to those in need, with proceeds going to Day Break Center and Morningstar Mission. Both were selected by the students for their admirable work in the community.

To purchase tickets to the fundraiser, which are $10 for adults and $3 for students, visit the JTHS Webstore. For businesses interested in sponsoring the event, please contact Pat Kenny (pkenny@chicagolandspeedway.com) with Chicagoland Speedway. Current sponsors include Exxon Mobil, Martin Whalen Office Solutions and Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Since last September, 40 students from both Joliet Central and Joliet West worked under the guidance of their teachers and Levy Restaurants, Chicagoland Speedway’s concession partner, to create a signature menu item for the 2015 race season at Chicagoland Speedway.

In January, four finalists were chosen with two sandwiches from West and two from Central. Those four will be tasted and voted on by attendees at the “Cooking for a Cause” fundraiser, and one from each school will be selected to appear on the 2015 Chicagoland Speedway concessions menu. In addition to the curriculum competition, which allowed students in advanced culinary classes to gain real life experience in the areas of culinary arts, marketing, sales, community outreach, event planning and hospitality, all of the participants will have the opportunity to apply for two scholarships totaling $2,500.

Daybreak Center operates 24-hours a day, 365 days a year and provides emergency housing, and supportive services to individuals and families who are homeless. Some participants in the program are in need of short-term housing, as a result of a situational crisis. Others need support services as they work to reestablish permanent housing.

MorningStar Mission has served men, women, children and families in Joliet and Will Country since 1909, offering hope through one-time meals and long-term recovery programs.
