Chicagoland Speedway Offers Wide Array of Amenities For First Race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup

Joliet, Ill. – Sept. 8, 2014 – NASCAR fans traveling to Chicagoland Speedway this week for the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup can expect to see plenty of amenities to ensure a complete NASCAR experience.

 

Major Concert Entertainment

Pop sensation Austin Mahone will serve as the Grand Marshal and pre-race entertainment for the MyAFibStory.com 400 on Sunday, Sept. 14. Mahone, who released his debut EP “The Secret” in late May, kicked off his summer tour across North America this July. Mahone’s single, “Mmm Yeah” featuring Pitbull, climbed to No. 2 on the iTunes charts in January, while his previous hit singles have garnered more than 88 million views on YouTube. Mahone has performed “Mmm Yeah” on “Good Morning America” and” “The Today Show.” It has been a year of rising star awards for the Chase Records/Cash Money Records, Inc artist after touring with Taylor Swift in 2013, including winning the MTV VMA’s “Artist to Watch,” and the MTV EMA’s “Best Push Artist,” and “Artist on the Rise.”

Pre-Race Show

AARP and AARP Foundation Drive to End Hunger present the “Salute to America’s Heroes Pre-Race Show” prior to the MyAFibStory.com 400 on Sunday, Sept. 14.  As part of this patriotic pre-race ceremony, Jim Cornelison, the Chicago Blackhawks national anthem singer, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” on its 200th anniversary, and the Hooligans Flight Team will conduct a pre-race flyover. AARP will also provide miniature USA flags for the first 35,000 fans in attendance. 

Champions Park

2013 race winner Matt Kenseth will have his plaque dedicated in Champions Park on Friday, Sept. 12 at 4:00 pm. Champions Park is a family-friendly area open to all race fans, which includes live entertainment, the Kids Zone, a social hub providing games and prizes as well as monuments dedicated to past winners. Ron White, a two-time winner of the USA Memory Championship (2009 and 2010), will also be paying tribute to fallen soldiers in Champions Park throughout the weekend, concluding on Sunday. White, a former Navy intelligence specialist who toured Afghanistan in 2007, has committed the name of each American service member killed in Afghanistan to memory. As a tribute, he inscribes the name of each man or woman on a 50-foot wall of honor.

Rock the Race

For fans outside enjoying Champions Park, Chicagoland Speedway and 97.9 The Loop, Chicago’s classic rock station, will host the Rock the Race Party on Sunday.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., fans are invited to the main stage of Champions Park for a performance by Kashmir, Chicago’s premier Led Zeppelin tribute band. Kashmir brings only the best of Led Zeppelin to a family oriented crowd while seeking to re-create the experience of a 70's Zeppelin show utilizing vintage stage gear, costumes and special effects.

 

Train-to-Track Program

The Train-to-Track program encompasses both Amtrak and Metra providers, and the service will supply shuttle transportation to those fans arriving to Joliet Union Station in downtown Joliet. Metra Rock Island riders will depart Chicago’s LaSalle Street Station, and stations along the route, while Amtrak riders have access to service from St. Louis and various locations along the way throughout Southern Illinois.  Tickets for the shuttle transportation between Joliet Union Station and Chicagoland Speedway are $5 per person each way ($10 round trip) and must be purchased in advance at www.ChicagolandSpeedway.com or by calling Chicagoland Speedway’s administrative offices at 815-722-5500 (during regular business hours).  Train tickets must be purchased separately through Amtrak or Metra.

 

Fan Zone Pit Pass

The Fan Zone Pit Pass brings race fans into the action, including access to the Infield Fan Zone for music and entertainment, pre-race concert access, NASCAR personality Q-and-A sessions, tech inspection viewing areas and an up-close look at driver introductions. On Sunday of the MyAFibStory.com 400, race fans also have access onto pit road to view their favorite drivers and cars.

When requesting a cart, you will be asked to provide your name and location details for pickup services. Please plan ahead, service times do get delayed an hour before and after the race.

Kids Club

Kids Club is the place to be for all the young race fans out there, with appearances by NASCAR drivers, Dash, the Chicagoland Speedway Mascot, face painting, a moon bounce and more. Parents can sign their children up for the Kids Club before arriving at Chicagoland Speedway by visiting http://www.kidsclubracing.com/Become-a-Member/Registration.aspx.

Shuttle Routes

The shuttle system around Chicagoland Speedway makes it more convenient for fans to travel around the track locations. Whether it is to Champions Park, the campgrounds or the infield, the shuttle system will be running all weekend long. You can find the shuttle route map on the Chicagoland Speedway web site.

Mobile App

Fans can get their information on the go and keep up with the most up to date track action with the Chicagoland Speedway Mobile App. This is a resourceful tool to use for track maps, camping, admissions, purchasing tickets and even times and scheduling. Additionally, it is a great way to keep up with announcements, notices, directions, and much more by simply downloading it to your Android or iPhone completely FREE of charge.

 

Free Parking and Coolers Permitted

General parking at Chicagoland Speedway is absolutely FREE and features updated parking lot signage to better serve your location needs. Bring your soft-sided coolers (6x6x12) filled with beverages and snacks!
