Track Presidents Make Friendly Wager for BCS National Championship Game
Joliet, Ill. — December 18, 2012 — It just so happens that this year’s BCS National Championship game has important ties to two of the NASCAR’s finest tracks. When The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame take on Alabama’s Crimson Tide on January 7th, Chicagoland Speedway’s President Scott Paddock and Talladega Superspeedway’s Chairman Grant Lynch will be playing close attention. A bet has been placed on the game and the stakes are high: the loser buys lunch for the entire staff of the winning track and has to pose for a video in the winning team’s colors.
“Grant [Lynch] is a man of many talents, though I’m not sure dancing the Irish jig is one of them,” said Paddock. “I’m certainly looking forward to finding out after Notre Dame takes care of business on Jan. 7 in Miami. Grant in an Irish leprechaun outfit is probably the only thing I’m more excited about than a Notre Dame National Championship!”
Paddock, who played basketball for Notre Dame, has placed his bet on his Alma Mater, while Lynch will be betting on Alabama—his team’s biggest rival.
“Although I am usually a diehard Auburn Tigers fan, when the SEC is represented in the National Championship I throw my support behind the conference,” said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch. “You won’t hear me say this often, but for the sake of the bet, ‘ROLL TIDE!’”
If the Tide is to win the BCS Championship, Paddock will have to purchase Chicago-style deep dish pizza for the Talladega Superspeedway staff. And if the Fighting Irish pull off a victory, Lynch owes the staff of Chicagoland Speedway Alabama’s famous Dreamland Barbecue.
The loser will also be forced to film himself wearing the opponent’s team gear, and the video will be shown on the Sprint Vision screens at the winner’s next race. Now how’s that for a bet!
