Tony Stewart celebrates winning the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup ChampionshipJoliet, Ill. – November 21, 2011 Tony Stewart may have captured the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship this past weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but his 2011 winning ways began at Chicagoland Speedway.  He captured his first win of the season during the GEICO 400, the first race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, at Chicagoland Speedway back on September 19. He went on to win at New Hampshire, Martinsville and Texas and now has the coveted title of 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion.

Hailing from Columbus, Ind., approximately four hours southeast of Chicago, Stewart has always shined at Chicagoland Speedway.  He currently holds the most top-five and top-10 finishes at the track including his victory during the first Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race.

“We’ve had a miserable year leading up to the Chase,” said Stewart back in September after his win at Chicagoland Speedway.  “There’s no better place to win at than Chicagoland.”

Already a two-time champion (2002, 2008), and the first champion to hold duel titles of driver and team owner since 1992, Stewart will embark on the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series as a defending champion.

The Chase for NASCAR Sprint Cup will once again kick off at Chicagoland Speedway in 2012 for the second consecutive year – September 15-16, 2012 – welcoming back the GEICO 400 champion and 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, Tony Stewart. The two day weekend will feature the Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series race with the GEICO 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race getting underway on Sunday, Sept. 16. The July 21-22 NASCAR weekend will feature a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and a NASCAR Nationwide Series race. This weekend also coincides with a rare off week for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
