CRYSTAL BOWERSOX TO PERFORM NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE STP 300 NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY
Joliet, Ill. – May 24, 2011 – Singer, songwriter Crystal Bowersox will perform the national anthem on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Chicagoland Speedway’s Messina Wildlife Animal Stopper 150 ARCA Series presented by Menards and the STP 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series. Bowersox will also be performing songs from her new album Farmer’s Daughter at the Champion’s Park Concert Stage that afternoon.
“We’re excited to have Crystal Bowersox sing the national anthem to begin the STP 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series night race under the lights,” said Scott Paddock, Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway President. “Crystal’s soulful voice is the perfect kick-off to our first race weekend of 2011 at Chicagoland Speedway. In continuing with our commitment to enhance the overall guest experience for our fans, local Chicago bands, 7th Heaven and Infinity will be performing in Champions Park throughout the day. ”
Bowersox’s emotive country-rock style was catapulted from the cramped coffeehouses and cavernous subway tunnels of Chicago to millions of homes across America when she placed second on last year’s season of American Idol. Along with her old soul of a voice, her care-free style and "don't mess with me" attitude set her apart from the other contestants and eventually landed the self-taught songstress performances with the likes of the legendary Joe Cocker, Harry Connick Jr., and Alanis Morrissette.
Farmer’s Daughter , Bowersox’s first studio release (19 Entertainment/Jive Records) chronicles her personal experience of dealing with a dark childhood, to finding love and happiness as a young woman, and everything in between. Since her album’s release in December, Bowersox has done on open for Michael Franti, Darius Rucker, and made her debut at the Grand Ole Opry with Vince Gill.
Post-race, attendees will be able to rock out with multi-platinum selling alternative rock band, Puddle of Mudd. The “in-your-face” group has sold over five million copies of their debut album Come Clean and in 2002 had the most played song off their sophomore album, “Blurry”. Between the mesmerizing vocals along with easy-going, yet eccentric beats, Puddle of Mudd is a concert that you don’t want to miss!
