Nearly two million motorsports fans reside in the Chicago area, and starting today, they are now able to listen to live radio broadcasts of all of their favorite races. Today, WUSN-FM announced the addition of live motorsports programming to the lineup of its HD 2 channel, Chicago’s Future Country, beginning with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Gatorade Duels from Daytona International Speedway today, February 15th, 2007. The station will broadcast a full complement of NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series races, as well as Indy Racing League (IRL) events throughout the 2007 season.

“WUSN has been a pioneer in HD radio, and we’re thrilled to take this next step in providing listeners with even more unique and exclusive programming with the added benefit of not having to pay a subscription fee,” said Dave Robbins, VP/GM of WUSN-FM and WUSN HD2. “Like the up and coming country artists we feature on WUSN HD 2, our racing programming will highlight those drivers making their mark on the NASCAR and IRL circuits.”

"As the popularity of motorsports continues to grow throughout Chicagoland, we are excited about WUSN providing an outlet where fans can listen to the wide range of racing that visits this area each year," said Matthew Alexander, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway, which has sold out every season since opening in 2001. "With this announcement, WUSN not only becomes a one-stop resource for the total motorsports fan, but continues to demonstrate why they are a leader in motorsports coverage."

“Chicagoland Speedway hosts the largest sporting event in Illinois every year during NASCAR Weekend, as well as the season finale of the IRL season where their series champion is crowned. Adding the Busch, Truck, and IRL Races to our broadcast schedule validates motorsports as a significant piece of the incredible sports landscape that is unique to Chicago”, remarked Scott Kosak, Director of Motorsports for WUSN HD1 and HD2. "We’ve built a partnership with all of the major motorsports radio networks that will allow WUSN to meet the needs of these fans right now.”

HD Radio is the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo. Using the latest in digital technology, FM stations are able to produce CD-quality sound and AM stations to broadcast with FM quality for a better listening experience. Through a process called multicasting, stations broadcasting digitally are able to provide listeners with additional channels of programming not currently heard on the AM or FM dial.
