In conjunction with NASCAR and the Joliet Jackhammers, Chicagoland Speedway raised $43,000 at the third annual "Racin' the Bases Celebrity Softball Challenge" last Thursday. Proceeds from the event - which were raised from ticket sales, commemorative t-shirt sales, auction items and corporate sponsorship - benefit Victory Junction Gang Camp.

"Chicagoland Speedway has been doing this for three years," Petty said. "It's a great way to get the community involved and a great way to get the drivers and local celebrities to raise awareness about Victory Junction Gang Camp."

Legendary Chicago Bears Super Bowl Champion quarterback Jim McMahon joined in the festivities, which included a pre-game autograph session and the celebrity softball contest. The event attracted more than 2,500 people to Silver Cross Field, home of the Joliet Jackhammers.

"'Racin' the Bases' is a great event because it's fun for everyone, and the fans really enjoy watching the drivers and media get out there and play ball," said Matthew Alexander, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. "We enjoyed putting it on and contributing to such a great cause. Victory Junction Gang Camp provides a unique and invaluable experience for kids, and we support all the tremendous work they do."

Victory Junction Gang Camp: Kyle Petty and wife Pattie Huffman Petty founded Victory Junction Gang Camp in 2001 in honor of their late son, Adam. Located in Randleman, North Carolina, Victory Junction Gang Camp is the seventh in the network of Hole in the Wall Gang Camps, founded for kids by Paul Newman. The camp provides a place where children with chronic and life-threatening illness and their families can retreat to rejuvenate their minds, bodies and spirits.
