United Way of Will County and the American Red Cross will be at Chicagoland Speedway this Saturday and Sunday during the ARCA/IRL race weekend to take monetary and blood donations for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The United Way booth, which will be located in the Midway, will be accepting monetary donations from 8 a.m. until one hour after the start of the race both days. They will accept cash, checks or credit card pledges. The American Red Cross will station their bloodmobile in the Midway, and will be taking blood donations from 8 a.m. until one hour after the start of the race on Sunday. Each person donating blood will receive a commemorative September 11th pin.

The money donated will go to the United Way Hurricane Katrina Response Fund, which has been activated to help affected communities begin rebuilding their lives. All funds will be allocated for both front-line disaster relief and long-term recovery needs as determined by local United Ways in affected areas in coordination with a vast network of human services agencies and volunteer centers.

"Thousands of people have been left homeless and penniless in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and it's been heartbreaking to watch," said Matthew Alexander, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. "We want to do whatever we can to help these people get on the road to recovery and to rebuild what's been destroyed. The United Way of Will County has a long history of helping people, and we are proud to have them on site this weekend, taking donations for those affected in the Gulf Coast. With our terrific and generous fans, we're confident that we can really make a difference."

Anyone unable to attend the races this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway can make an online gift to the United Way Hurricane Katrina Response Fund at http://national.unitedway.org or access the site from a link at www.chicagolandspeedway.com . Donation via check is also being accepted at the following address (please make all checks payable to UWA and reference Hurricane Katrina Fund in the memo):
