Fresh off yesterday?s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Michigan, Jimmie Johnson was on hand today at Chicagoland Speedway during an ARCA RE/MAX Series test session to witness a milestone in his younger brother Jarit?s racing career.

Jimmie looked on today as the 25-year old Jarit took part in his first-ever stock car test session at a superspeedway. ?Today?s test session is really about me getting the feel for a stock car,? said Jarit. ?Hendrick motorsports scheduled me to test here with Bobby Gerhart and that?s about all I know. Pretty much, I was told to simply come here get some seat time.? At the request of Hendrick Motorsports, Jarit tested the No. 5 Chevy of ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran, Bobby Gerhart. According to Gerhart, there are no immediate plans for Jarit to pilot an ARCA RE/MAX Series race car for his team in the near future. ?It?s big for Jarit to have his brother Jimmie here helping him today and I?m just glad to be a part of it,? said Gerhart.

In his young career, Jarit has already gained racing experience in ASA (American Speed Association) and has logged laps at the .363 mile Hickory Motor Speedway in Newton, NC. ?It was pretty wild and totally different being here today at Chicagoland Speedway. I?ve been on nothing bigger than a half-mile and nothing this fast so it?s definitely a whole new ball game for me,? said Jarit after his first few laps on the 1.5-mile, 18-degree banked Chicagoland Speedway.

Decked out in blue jeans, a t-shirt and sunglasses, older brother Jimmie shifted from his role as a driver to being a mentor and even with helping the crew. ?Yah, it?s been a lot of fun today. It?s been quite a few years since I worked on my own stuff. The last car that I worked on was my ASA car and they are a lot different. I don?t my way around these cars with wrenches, but I know what they look like and I know what is supposed to go where, but I can?t necessarily change it all out. So, I feel a little awkward and in the way, but I?ve been able to help make changes that have in turn helped Jarit. It?s been fun to be around here today and help,? said Jimmie.

Being the younger brother of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series driver who has had as much success as Jimmie can be intimidating for a driver on the verge of his career, but it can also very helpful. ?When we got here, Jimmie told me that he wasn?t going to pump me full of information but rather just let me go out there and learn. I always take advice from him because he obviously knows these cars and has had success. Everything he says, I take in and it helps,? Jarit said.

Jimmie was quick to praise the results of Jarit?s test session efforts today. ?I?ve been very happy with everything. Jarit has done a great job in the car today. This is his first time on any track besides Hickory Motor Speedway so it?s a big change for him and he?s done a great job. He?s up to the pace and close to the speed of the fast guys after only a few laps. He?s doing a great job and (Bobby Gerhart) brought a good car. The guys are working real hard and doing a great job.? Jarit isn?t sure what the future will hold but this young driver has his vision pointed to the top. ?I?d love to go and race the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and then eventually onto the NASCAR Busch Series and NEXTEL Cup Series.?
