ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran driver Jason Jarrett and rookie T.J. Bell took part in a one-day tire test at Chicagoland Speedway for Hoosier Tire Company in preparation for the Saturday, September 11 ReadyHosting.com 200.

?Our main objective for this test was to improve the driver?s feel of the car in respect to the track ...We want to give (the driver) a little more feel so they are comfortable and secure driving the car,? said Steve Partridge, manager of compound construction for Hoosier Tire Company.

Both Jarrett and Bell took turns throughout the day on the fast, 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway. ?I guess you could say today we were kind of guinea pigs for Hoosier and trying to help them out, but at the same time, our team is trying to get better on the 1.5-mile tracks,? said Jarrett.

According to Jarrett they have struggled as a team on the 1.5-mile tracks this year. Both Bell and Jarrett are heading to Kansas Speedway after today?s test for the next stop on the 2004 ARCA RE/MAX Series season schedule. With Kansas also being 1.5-miles in length, Jarrett knows the importance of today?s test. ?It?s a good thing to get some laps (at Chicagoland Speedway) today because we?ll be running this car at Kansas as well this weekend.?

Despite his struggles at 1.5-mile tracks this year, Jarrett is looking forward to racing at Chicagoland Speedway on September 11. With three races under his belt at Chicagoland Speedway, Jarrett has an average finish of sixth.

Bell, who today ran his first laps at Chicagoland Speedway, was more than pleased with how the test went. ?This place is unbelievable. It is beautiful, very nice and very smooth,? said Bell. Some things were a surprise for the rookie, however, especially the bowed backstretch. ?I was barely using any brakes going around the track today. (Chicagoland Speedway) is pretty different. It?s a very fun place to drive and I love how smooth it is.?

Bell agreed with Jarrett about working on race set-up and being ready for the September 11 race. ?Some things we will definitely change by the time we get back here for race day. But, for the first time here we are really close on set-up and will be good when we come back in September.?

Coming from an open-wheel racing background, Bell is particularly looking forward to the September 10-12 ARCA/IRL weekend at Chicagoland Speedway which features both open-wheel and stock car racing. ?It will be nice to see a lot of the old faces. It?s a good weekend because you get to see so much different racing - that is great for the fans. They get to see the stock cars of the ARCA RE/MAX Series and the IndyCar Series; it?s an all-in-one great package for everybody.?
