For the third year in a row RaceFest at Chicagoland Speedway raised approximately $50,000 for the Mike Guglielmucci Sr. Racer's Benevolent Fund. The Tenth Annual RaceFest was held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill where hundreds of race fans were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Activities included live and silent auctions, Chicagoland Speedway Pace Car rides, Richard Petty Driving Experience ride-alongs, as well as drinks and dinner in the Chicagoland Speedway garages. "It?s hard to believe that it has been 10 years already. We've come a long way since our first event in the basement of a local athletic club," said Mike Guglielmucci Jr., president of the Mike Guglielmucci Sr. Racers Benevolent Fund. The Mike Guglielmucci Sr. Racer's Benevolent Fund was created nine years ago to honor the memory of Mike Guglielmucci Sr. and to benefit race car drivers who were injured in auto racing-related accidents. The fund has grown over the years to include scholarships to 12 students enrolled in the Automotive Program at Joliet Junior College and monetary donations to local high schools to improve their automotive programs and shops. RaceFest has grown from the basement of the local Moran A.C. to the Joliet Knights of Columbus to the Joliet Armory and now to its new home at Chicagoland Speedway. "We are once again honored to be the home of RaceFest," said Matthew Alexander, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. "The students, drivers and families this fund supports are the same people we work with day-in and day-out, so having the Mike Guglielmucci Sr. Racer's Benevolent Fund as one of our official charities is natural for us and something we are committed to seeing succeed." Guglielmucci added, "It is an honor and a privilege to work with all of these generous people and to be able to give something back to the racing community as well as the local community. I know my dad is looking down at what we have done and smiling proudly." To date, the Mike Guglielmucci Sr. Racers Benevolent Fund has given out over $145,000 to injured drivers or their families and in scholarships over the past ten years. "Without great people like we had at RaceFest and for the past nine years, as well as our volunteers, great sponsors and the tremendous support we get from the Chicagoland Speedway, none of this would be possible," concluded Guglielmucci.
