NASCAR Busch Series drivers Ashton Lewis, Lance Norick and David Reutimann took part in a two-day test session in preparation for the July 12th Tropicana Twister 300, NASCAR Busch Series event at Chicagoland Speedway. NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Series driver Joe Nemechek was also on hand to coach driver David Reutimann, who drives for his Busch team.

"We're just trying to teach David feel right now," said Nemechek about their goals for the test session. "He is new to these (NASCAR Busch Series) cars and this is a very high-speed race track, so we're trying to get him seat time and making changes to the car where he can feel them."

As for Reutimann, he'll take all the advice he can get, especially from Nemechek who has already claimed three Busch Series victories and one Winston Cup victory in 2003. "Racing is about 95% doing and (Joe) tells me what to expect before I get out there. He coaches me along throughout the day and it helps out very much with the learning process, especially with Chicagoland because I haven't even seen the track until this week," said Reutimann. Reutimann finished 37th in last week's Busch race at Kentucky, but started from the ninth position and was as high as third during the race before his engine broke.

Nemechek is playing the role of coach this week with his driver, but he says a deal is in the works to have him possibly compete in the Tropicana Twister 300, NASCAR Busch Series event at Chicagoland Speedway on July 12. "I love to race as much as I can and (Chicagoland Speedway) has been good to me the last two years." Nemechek has finished fourth in both Tropicana Twister 300's at Chicagoland Speedway. "If we can get the program put together, I think we have a shot at winning the race here. We've already won three races this year in the Busch Series and I have a Cup win under my belt, so one way or another I think we'll be here to race in the Busch car myself and Dave (Reutimann) in the other."

When asked about potentially having to run against his car owner at Chicagoland Speedway this July, Reutimann said, "Yah, he's a tough guy to outrun. He thrives on race tracks like this. The faster the track is, the more Joe likes it. That's the way he is and I tell him he's nuts."

Norick, who will also be competing July 12 at Chicagoland Speedway, is looking forward to his first race at Chicagoland. "This is my first time running at Chicagoland so this test is definitely good for me to figure out the race track," said Norick. "So far, I'm real happy with the track and the test itself. It seems to be real forgiving and it's a great facility, probably one the best we run at. I'm looking forward to coming back next month."

Coming off a good run at Kentucky where he finished seventh, Lewis is looking forward to the Tropicana Twister 300 and representing his sponsor, the Civil Air Patrol. "In the wake of September 11th and the war in IRAQ and Afghanistan, it gives us a lot of pride to go out there and create awareness for what the Civil Air Patrol does and give them the recognition they deserve. The average person doesn't not know much about the Civil Air Patrol, so if we can give them exposure and credit, then we need to do that." Lewis finished 11th in last year's Tropicana Twister 300.

The NASCAR Winston Cup Series and the NASCAR Busch Series, along with the True Value International Race of Champions, return to Chicagoland Speedway July 11-13. The 2003 NASCAR weekend includes Speedway SuperAmerica Pole Day practice and qualifying on Friday, July 11. Saturday, July 12, Chicagoland Speedway plays hosts to IROC at Chicagoland and the Tropicana Twister 300 (NASCAR Busch Series). Also on Saturday will be the Tropicana 400 "Happy Hour". The weekend will culminate with the Tropicana 400 (NASCAR

Winston Cup Series) on Sunday, July 13.
