As the Indy Racing League makes its historical debut at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend, fans will also get a glimpse of open-wheel racing?s past. Expo Village, located outside the track behind the grandstands, will feature a temporary museum that will display the historical cars of open-wheel racing. Inside the museum, fans will be able to experience the history of open-wheel racing as they see a variety of open-wheel race cars, each representing a decade of racing beginning in 1909. Also on display in the museum will be Indy Racing League?s championship trophy and a 20-minute documentary about the Indy Racing League. The cars on display are being supplied by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. Cars that will highlight the museum include the first ever mail-order car, Illinois-native open-wheel driver Rich Vogler?s midget car, along with a Viper Pace Car and several other Indy cars. ?Race fans will enjoy the museum because it goes through the evolution of open-wheel racing from two-seaters, where the mechanic rode with the driver, to the high-tech race cars of today,? said Joie Chitwood, vice president and general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. ?The museum is sure to be a fan favorite.? Along with the open-wheel museum that will be on display Thursday through Sunday, fans on Saturday can enjoy music provided by Nina, a local DJ. On Sunday, the World Classic Rockers, a group of artists from such bands as Toto, the Eagles, Foreigner and more take to the stage to entertain fans. The racing action begins Thursday as the ARCA RE/MAX Series takes to the track for practice and qualifying for the ARCA 200. Friday?s festivities include ARCA 200 practice, Delphi Indy 300 practice and a driver autograph session at 4:30 pm where ticket holders can meet their favorite ARCA and IRL drivers in person. Tickets for Thursday are $10 and $15 for Friday. Kids 12 and under are free. Saturday?s ARCA 200 begins at 1:30 pm with the Delphi Indy 300 qualifying at 12:00 pm. Sunday?s Delphi Indy 300 begins at 3:00 pm with a final practice beginning at 10:30 am. For a complete schedule of events, visit
