Joliet, IL, 6/13/2001 - Mark Martin and the Viagra racing team spent Monday and Tuesday testing at Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, Illinois. It was the first time Martin had even seen the new 1.5-mile facility, and after testing on it, he anticipates a very fast race next month. ?The track is real fast,? Martin said. ?It?s not quite like anywhere else we?ve raced. I guess the most similar track would be Texas. The new asphalt makes the track incredibly fast because the tires really grip it. With the tires being such a hard compound, we ran about 80 laps on a set of tires the first day and they looked as good as new.? The Viagra team brought two cars to the test, JR-84 and JR-86. Martin spent most of Monday in JR-86, which is the same car he raced in Las Vegas and Texas this year. That car provided top-10 finishes in both races. JR-84 has only been run once. Martin took it to last year?s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis where he was involved in an accident on lap 16. ?I am pleased with the test,? Martin said. ?We used every bit of time we had since we lost a little bit of time Tuesday morning because of rain. We spent all day Monday working on race stuff, we never even finished all of the things we wanted to try on the first day. We carried over some of that to Tuesday and made some long runs then, along with some qualifying runs. I think it should be a good race and the fans will be in for a real treat.? Roush Racing is a subsidiary of Roush Industries and operates eight teams; four in NASCAR Winston Cup with drivers Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch; two in the Busch Series with Burton and Greg Biffle; and two in Craftsman Truck with Chuck Hossfeld and Nathan Haseleu.
