Thursday and Friday, June 21-22, the 2000 Indy Racing Northern Light Series Champion Buddy Lazier, along with the 1996 Champion Scott Sharp and his teammate Mark Dismore, took part in an IRL Firestone tire test at Chicagoland Speedway. The Indy Racing League will arrive at Chicagoland Speedway this summer for the first in the Chicago metropolitan area. Lazier commented on what fans can expect. ?Fans who come to the races here will feel the cars thunder by. They will feel it throughout their whole body. The vibrations, the noise-It shakes you.? Lazier added, ?We have raced in places around Chicago, but never actually in the Chicago area. We know there are many open-wheel fans in this area and it?s great they can now come and watch us. When they come here to see the Indy Race they will want to come back time and time again.? Coming off a win at the Radisson Indy 200 at Pikes Peak International Raceway Sunday, June 17, Lazier commented on the speedway after running his first laps. ?It is an awesome facility. It is fast and will provide for some exciting racing because of the width and smoothness.? Scott Sharp also had a chance to comment on the track after running his first laps. ?This place is awesome. The track is really smooth, which is important for Indy cars. It?s extremely fast and the car gets in and out of the corners effortlessly. The speedway is very unique because it is almost a continuous oval. Because of that, it gives us the opportunity to pass other cars and race side-by-side.? Race engineers for the Kelly Racing Team of Scott Sharp said Sharp ran speeds up to 219 mph and they plan on going even faster race day. A team spokesperson added, ?It is a very fast track and we are thrilled with the number of Midwest fans who have shown their support for Indy racing. It is going to be an exciting race.? The Indy Racing League will make its historical debut September 2, 2001.
