The Midwest?s new motorsports mecca ? the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois ? is drawing enormous interest from racing fans throughout the United States. Nearly one hundred thousand phone calls and 1.5 million website hits have been received by fans interested in purchasing their Chicagoland Speedway Founders P.A.S.S. to the 2001 racing events. Founders P.A.S.S. seats went on sale to the general public this morning, after a successful offering to current ticket and suite holders at Route 66 Raceway and Will County residents. The Chicagoland Speedway ticket office at (815)727-RACE has been receiving nearly 500 calls per hour since launching their live phone service Wednesday morning. The website, at, has received more than 1,641,407 hits, averaging 235,000 hits per day with user sessions averaging more than 17 minutes. "NASCAR and Indy Racing are a hit in the Midwest," said Joie Chitwood, general manager of Chicagoland Speedway. "Our phones began ringing off the hook when we announced our race schedule last week, and the interest level continues to increase. The sales of Founders P.A.S.S. seats have been tremendous. The Midwestern race fans have shown that they want a seat when NASCAR and Indy Racing come to town." The Chicagoland Speedway will offer two key race event weekends featuring four top racing series. Currently they have dates set for the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Winston Cup Series that will share the inaugural event weekend at the Chicagoland Speedway on July 14 and 15, 2001.
